Poor quality pet foods cause dry skin and itching. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. try putting him on holistic food such as evengers pheasant and brown rice formula or california naturals formula . but definately try a holistic food .
The two things that come to my mind are DIET and BATHING. Feeding a high quality kibble which is good for skin allergies (eg. Canidae, California Natural or Innova) should help him a lot. Also, how many times have you bathed him since you got him? It’s important to know NEVER to bathe your dog more than 4 times per year and those 4 times should only be done when absolutely necessary. If that doesn’t help, I’d get the opinion of a different veterinarian.
I’ve had Scotties before and always keep their skin looking beautiful with the Brewers Yeast and Garlic tabs, also I gave them 1 X daily ,1/2 cc on a 3 cc syringe of the liquid CORN OiL shortening.Try also dipping your pet in the petimite dog dip.
I had the exact same problem with my boy and it took me a year and a half to find an answer to his extreme itching. It a homeopathic remedy thats safe for dogs. Here is the link so you can research it, http://www.pegasuskits.com/index.php/individual-remedies/remedies/histamine-comp-30c/
hopefully you will be able to find a local equivalent that can help him
