What dog breed should i get?
Category: QA
We are going to get a new dog, and the last one we had was a scottie. We want a dog that is a little bit bigger but not like a saint bernard. We live in a small house with a yard, and we want to take it on daily long walks. It needs to be nice and playful, and independent because we will be away at work\school for six hours. I know, it’s very precise, but any suggestions? Oh, and we live close to a lake, so a water loving dog would be best!
I am trying to find the name of a dog that looks like a Scottish Terrier but is a large breed.?

What dog breed – Scottie or Westie?
Category: QA
I have a 14 month old (animal crazy) son, and am looking for a puppy to raise with him. I have lots of experience with large dogs, but need something on the smaller side.
Anyone have opinions on either of these breeds? Intelligence, trainability, and affection are key. Any other breed suggestions are welcomed!
Choosing A Dog Breed That Is Suitable For Your Home
Category: Articles
If you’re looking to purchase a puppy or dog to bring home to your family, it may be a good idea to do a little research to find out which breed may be right for your family and living situation. Chances are you’ve done some research already and have a basic idea of what breed you are looking for but you may have some questions still that are holding you back. There are some basic questions that you can answer in order to help narrow down the type of breed that may be best suitable for your home.
One very important question and factor that you may use when considering which type of dog to buy is whether or not you have children in the house and how old are those children if you do have some. There are breeds that may or may not be suitable for children. For example, if you’ve got a new born and a 2 year old in the house, then it may not be the best idea to have a young lab in the house at the same time. Lab puppies tend to be more energetic, and sometimes more clumsy which could result in the children being hurt. Larger dogs often do not know there own strength, especially if they are still young and naïve. Also, young children love to play with dogs so if you’re considering adopting an older dog, you may want to observer the dog’s temperament before bringing home. Often times, older dogs become easily irritated and may snap or snarl at children who just want to play.
Another factor for deciding which breed you would like to purchase or adopt is what type of outdoor activities will you being getting the dog involved in. If you’re a hunter, you may want to consider a retriever since they are typically known as being very good hunting dogs. Hunting dogs are also a popular factor when considering the purchase of a new dog and there are a number of different breeds available that make great hunting dogs.
Finally, if you’ve got a small living space and do not have a lot of room for a big dog. Or if you would rather have a smaller dog, there are a lot of small breed dogs out there that would make a great addition to your home. Dogs like the Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Westies, Scotties, and more are all great small dog breeds that are great for any small living environment or for those that do not want an overpowering dog, but still want a dog as a pet.
Whatever your situation may be, children, hunting needs, small living space, there is a breed for just about every situation, and with a little research and careful planning, you too can have a great new puppy or dog that is just what you are looking for.

What Dog Breed Fits Your Lifestyle?
Category: Articles
If you are a hands-on, sporty type person, then a dainty lap dog might not be the right choice for you. Likewise, a rambunctious, energetic hound dog is not going to be a happy pup just sitting quietly at your feet while you knit. Finding the right dog breed for your lifestyle will not only ensure your own happiness, but the dog’s as well. He will become part of your family, after all, and you want him to be the right fit.
All puppies are cute; little roly-poly creatures that fall over themselves and snuggle with you when they are tired. But, just like your babies grew up to be defiant, mouthy teens, a puppy will grow to be a poorly trained adolescent dogs if they are not dealt with properly. Although good training is necessary, it is not the only consideration. Moving a mastiff into a two-bedroom bungalow is not going to work out, for you or for the dog, and a teacup poodle may feel overwhelmed in a large, expansive mansion. Keep in mind what size your puppy your dog will grow up to be, and by pass the ones that are not realistic for your home, no matter how cute the big sweeties can be.
Consider your family make up and lifestyle before you start looking at pets. If you have a newborn child, it might not be the best time to consider getting a new puppy- you are busy enough and might not have the right amount of time to properly train your four-legged addition. An improperly trained puppy may turn into a poorly behaved, bigger dog, so wait until you have more time to devote to him and the energy to keep up with it. The fallacy that the dog and baby should grow up together is a very dangerous one to buy into. Do you want a gentle dog that is sturdy enough to be handled by inquisitive little hands without knocking your toddler down? Consider a pug, one of the gentlest and most forgiving of the dog breeds. But, for safety sake, never trust the loving nature of any dog over your own vigilance.
Need a jogging or walking partner? Consider an upbeat, energetic breed like the small, Jack Russell terrier or the larger labs. Want a cuddle buddy instead? Then a sweet natured, compact Scotty is a good choice for the small dog lover and the golden retriever is the star standard for those who prefer the big dogs to love. (Goldens are also great all around for being gentle with children, and walking partners. As long as you call them sweetie pie or big wuvvie, a golden will do just about anything you ask.) Choose wisely, a dog will be part of your family for a very long time and a part of your heart for even longer.

Is my Scottish Terrier too nice for her breed?
Category: QA
I wonder if she is. I heard some Scotties are stuborn and some loyal and sweet only to their families. And others hate strangers or other people.
My little girl is a year old, she turned one this June. She is VERY sweet with everyone. Yes even while in the car she gets exited about other people. She NEVER bit anyone her whole year alive and she does not bark at people. She has lots of energy like a Terrier should and she loves to run after ducks, chickens etc.. But she never gets them. She loves to swim in the dog beach with the other 200 dogs that are there on weekends. Sometimes she gets too exited and will run after them barking lol. She is also very sweet with small children. My godchild will lay on the ground with her and she licks his face, he is two years old but small for his age. She is also very smart. Will climb and slide of the kids slides with them. And when they get a drink of water she cant see them to she climbs to.
So is she sweet for being this kind of breed?
