what is a good dog breed that is small but not to small?

Category: QA

i want another dog that is small but not to small. not any smaller than a jack russell terrier and not bigger than a schnauzer or scottie. something like a lap dog. right now we have a femal husky who gets along well with other dogs. the new dog would have to get along with other dogs. it can be a mixed breed or purebred
***female not femal
i like scottish terriers and west highland terriers. does anyone own one and have experience. someone on my brothers soccer team has one. it is black and so cute

I would go with a Toy Poodle. They are so cute when not cut in a poodle cut. And they are friendly and great lap dogs. They also do not shed!!!! that is a bonus. I have one and he is the love of my life. They are small but hardy. :)

cocker spaniels are the sweetest little lap dogs,

She said nothing smaller then a jack russell.

I would suggest just going to the shelter and seeing what they have. Find a nice adult(full grown), dog friendly dog to add to your family. I got my dogs from the shelter and couldn’t be happier!

My friends have a cockapoo (cocker spaniel/poodle) that is a little lighter than 20 pounds.the dog can fit right on your lap… she’s a great size, plus they are hypoallergenic and don’t shed.

I have a Boston Terrier and she’s great. She is 15 lbs.You can get the larger kind, up to about 25 lbs. I prefer the smaller size because I carry her with me alot. They love people and usually adapt to your lifestyle. They are smart, train easily, and funny little dogs! Mega personality!

I love miniature schnauzers. They are goofy, robust, athletic little dogs. My Schnauzer weighs about 25 pounds. They are very loyal, trainable and obedient. They do tend to be wary of strangers, and every one that I have met barks at the door. You need to socialize them early with a puppy class and a level one obedience.

My schnauzer is a very fast agility dog, and a big sweetheart to boot. They are great dogs.

You should check out http://www.akc.org. It lists all recognized breeds and all kinds of info on them.

for ppl who are open to mixbreeds i always recommend the shelter first, due to our currect economy alot of fullbreeds as well as mix breeds are filling up our shelters now, i’m a member with a corgi rescue group where I will get the word out to local corgi enthusiasts to help rehome those that need a new one, and recently the number of dogs that no longer has a home has grown incredibly. families unable to pay for their dogs, needing to move to smaller homes and apartments. So why not save a dog? dogs from rescues sometimes turns out to be the most greatful dogs because they know they were rescued.

I would suggest do your homework, read up about a variety of breeds or call breeders for advice. It should depend on your personality and lifestyle and most important knowledge of dogs in general. Most terriers are very active dogs, so not lap dogs. All dogs need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, and as you already have a husky it would get that anyway. Personally I don’t like the term lapdog, a dog is a dog regardless of breed. If you don’t want a very active type, forget about working breeds like spaniels and terriers. For a new dog or pup to get along with your existing dog it’s up to you to intervene and show leadership and not allow your husky to make that decision for you. If you decide on an older dog it will depend on the personality of both dogs, as you maybe aware dogs are pack animals with a ranking system.
