No reputable breeder is going to charge less than $600 for a pet quality dog, and if you buy one from one charging less than that or an irreputable breeder, you’re likely going to be faced with a sick or worm-infested pup, or a dog who’s going to have genetic health issues (that will be expensive to treat) down the road.

Why would you have such a low price/ value attached to a purebred puppy ??

Why would you want to limit your choices to only the puppy mills, back yard breeders, or bad breeders, who would sell puppies at such low prices? You’d be supporting suffering of the parents.

How about having a garage sale, or selling something on Craigs List, or do some part time work, and save up around $ 1000. and get your choice of beautiful show type, healthy, guaranteed, puppies; who’s parents live as pampered animals, not caged in misery??

I’m thinking you just need an education about puppy mills. There are dogs kept in awful conditions, just to crank out cheap puppies, even in Sacramento, housed in people’s garages and spare rooms.

People willing to buy cheap puppies ( or puppies in pet stores) is the only way that those miserable conditions are kept afloat. No buyers, = no back yard puppy mills.

Even rescues need about $ 300 – 400 adoption fees to pay for boarding, transporting, caring for, grooming, vet bills, spays and neuters, training and socializing, and vaccines

So, the $ 160 price point you named, is only going to support criminal, bad , animal breeding and neglect. That’s not what you want.

Please place more value on your future best friend, and the lifestyle of it’s parents and grandparents. When you buy an expensive puppy, you’re paying for the lifestyle of the parents, and the showing , environment, vet care, training, and careful breeding of the ancestors. You’re paying for people to care to give and do their very best, and never actually make a profit, but just have cash and debts flow in and out, and always have to add money to their hobby to do the best job, from other sources.
